FAST FACTS: Oklahoma State Names Eric Morris Head Football Coach

Oklahoma State has officially turned the page.

The university has hired Eric Morris as its next head football coach, ending the long tenure of Mike Gundy, who was let go after the 2025 season following declining on-field results and mounting pressure from the fan base.

Gundy’s 21-year run in Stillwater included a Big 12 title, multiple double-digit-win seasons, and the rise of OSU as a consistent national presence.

But recent years saw the program drift, with inconsistent recruiting, offensive struggles, and increasing frustration over the Cowboys slipping behind rivals in the new Big 12 landscape.

The move signaled OSU’s desire for a reset and a more modern offensive identity.

Morris is that reset.

A former Texas Tech wide receiver and All-Big 12 punt returner, Morris was born on October 26, 1985, and briefly played professionally for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League before beginning a coaching career defined by high-powered offenses.

He served as offensive coordinator at Texas Tech from 2013 to 2017, helping field one of the nation’s top offenses and reaching three bowl games. After a year coaching wide receivers at Washington State, he took over a struggling 1-10 program at the University of the Incarnate Word — and turned it into a 10-3 conference champion by 2021.

His success vaulted him to the head job at the University of North Texas, where he coached from 2022 to 2025. Under Morris, UNT ranked consistently in the top 25 nationally in scoring and total offense, making him one of the country’s most respected young offensive minds.

Now, at just 39 years old, he inherits an OSU program looking to regain its swagger.

The Cowboys are banking on Morris’ track record of fast turnarounds, explosive schemes, and strong player development to usher in a new era in Stillwater.

After more than two decades of Gundy, Oklahoma State is betting big on fresh energy, modern concepts, and a coach known for breathing life into offenses.

A new chapter begins — and all eyes are on how fast Morris can make it go.
